“Just the facts, Ma’am”

Sr. Melinda, a volunteer at the food pantry and a former teacher

Christ the King Food Pantry is made up of two food pantries that were merged in 2011:  St. Vincent DePaul Food Pantry of St. John the Evangelist Parish (started in 1975) and St. Vincent DePaul Food Pantry of St. Peter Parish (started in 1978). With the merger of St. John the Evangelist, Sacred Heart, and St. Peter – the name, “Christ the King Food Pantry” was adopted.

The food pantry has over 100 volunteers and no paid staff. In 2023, the food pantry served:

  • Average of 53 households / week

  • Average of 141 individuals / week

  • Approximately 7,350 individuals / year

  • Clients receive enough food for 9 meals / person

  • This reflects approximately 66,150 meals / year

Our decision (the parish / food pantry leadership) to build a new food pantry is the best way to meet the needs of our community’s clients in a dignified manner, as well as assisting our dedicated volunteers in their service. The new food pantry will be similar to a small grocery store where clients can choose what foods they wish to receive rather than receiving a box of predetermined items.
