Food Pantry Building Project

We are trying to help more people be less hungry by providing them a dignified way to be fed and nurtured.

The Food Pantry is currently in a small, poorly ventilated two-story house built in 1900. The extremely limited basement storage is for canned items. At times we are not able to take food offered because we have no place to store it.

The area available for serving clients is also inadequate. The Food Pantry can help only one family at a time, requiring others to wait outside. This has caused additional hardship in inclement weather.

Highlights of the New Design

Grocery Store-Style Layout

Clients will be able to choose for themselves, the food that will be most useful to them. With this new layout, we will be able to serve more than one family at a time.

Private Meeting Rooms

The new food pantry will have a couple of small rooms so private conversations with clients can be had as many of our volunteers spend time gathering information and listening to peoples’ stories.

Storage Area & Loading Dock

There will be room for more food storage – both commercial refrigerator and freezer space. There will also be a loading dock on one level providing easy access for unloading food.

Lord, when was it that we saw you hungry and gave you food, or thirsty and gave you something to drink? And when was it that we saw you a stranger and welcomed you, or naked and gave you clothing? And when was it that we saw you sick or in prison and visited you?” And the king will answer them, “Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family, you did it to me.
